Description

An immersive 60-minute PowerPoint presentation that takes participants on a powerful journey into the lives of the 53 Africans whose freedom was unjustly interrupted and whose courage helped shape the course of American history. Through engaging storytelling, visual imagery, and hands-on learning, participants do more than hear the story, they step into it. The program explores who the Africans were before captivity, the events of the Amistad rebellion, and how Connecticut became a critical turning point in the fight for justice, highlighting the role of local courts, churches, abolitionists, and communities in defending human rights.

To bring the story to life, the presentation includes an Amistad Education Kit featuring replica artifacts and visual aids that help participants fully engage with the history. By the end of the program, participants gain a deeper understanding of the Amistad story, Connecticut’s role in the abolitionist movement, and what freedom, justice, and leadership mean in both historical and present-day contexts
